Allentown, Tamaqua Girls Join WAACS: Six of the nine WAACS who were sworn in at the Philadelphia Custom House last Friday are pictured above as they took the oath, given by Lieutenant Colonel Schoenfeld, preparatory to assignment at Des Moines, Iowa. Leading the group is Alice Elizabeth Buel, left, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert G. Buel of 2135 Chew St., this city, and first Allentown woman to be accepted for officers’ training in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps. Next to Miss Buel, a former fashion copy-writer, is Mrs. Gloria Kaup Miller-Potter, native of Tamaqua and wife of Lieutenant Thomas J. Potter, former Palmerton dentist who is now serving with the Army on the West Coast. The other four women are Dora K. Reed of Schuylkill Haven; Rachel Levitz and Sylvia Kulla, both of Philadelphia, and Eleanor Prickett, Va., to Lieutenant Ashton H. Wiener of New York City.
